Council of Europe

Since 2000 ELSA has a participatory status with the Council of Europe and since 2008 the Council of Europe is the Human Rights partner of ELSA International. Mrs Maud de Boer-Buquicchio served as Marraine of ELSA (2008-2013) and Mr Thorbjorn Jagland, Secretary General of CoE, is ELSA’s Patron since 2013.

During all these years of cooperation, ELSA has been involved in different initiatives promoted by the Council of Europe and the Council of Europe supports ELSA in many different ways. The most significant examples are the coorganization of the European Human Rights Moot Court Competition, various Legal Research Groups, support to ELSA Day, delegation of ELSA to the World Forum of Democracy etc.

ELSA’s and the Council of Europe common compass is the commitment of both to Human Rights and to the respect of the rule of law.
